Almost all of us have been scammed before. Today I will go over some of the scamming methods, and how to avoid them, as well as general tips to stay safe on the marketplace.
Basic rules
Rule #1- If it looks too good to be true, it definitely is.
Anyone offering to take your money, and grow it with large returns is scamming. There are no exceptions to this rule, it is always accurate. Never give anyone any money if theyre offering to make you high returns, as they are ponzi schemes.
Rule #2- Report suspicious/scammy content
When you see anything which is scammy, a ponzi scheme, or you have any sort of suspicion regarding a thread, use the report function so mods can look into it.
Rule #3- Use middleman when buying anything.
Whenever you are buying something, even small, use middleman.

@Hans69 charges no fee for deals under $50, anything above is 3%. This is a failsafe way to not get scammed, funds are held until both parties are happen. Paying 3% is a small amount to guarantee your safety.
If someone refuses middleman, do not deal with them. No legitimate seller will refuse a middleman.
Rule #4- Do not buy ebooks.
A lot of ebooks are scams and you will see a lot of scam reports vs ebook sellers. The chances of them earning you money are very low, they are often recycled methods and vouches do not mean much. If you absolutely cannot resist buying an ebook, use a middleman to hold the funds until you earn money/are satisfied. No legit ebook seller refuses MM to hold funds.
Common SCAMMING methods and how to avoid them
Trust your gut when dealing with someone. If they are rushing the deal, or trying to force you into dealing with them, then the odds are that something is up. Buy stuff on your own terms, dont let another force you into doing something.
Method #1- Impersonator scam.
Impersonation scamming is very common, however it is easy to stop. Many trusted members have had people impersonate them.
Screenshots of chats are NOT a good way to verify chats, as they can be fabricated by replicating the messages you send to the real person, and pasting their responses to you, thus making the screenshot look real. Sending a discord username is also not good, as they can use special characters. Sending a verification code is also not good, as they can get it from impersonating you to the real seller.
Here is how you can be entirely sure that you are not dealing with an impostor-
Verify discord IDs onsite. Discord IDs can not be replicated as they are unique. To get an ID, right click a name and press Copy ID. Here is an example message on verifying a discord.

As you can see, send both your discord and their discord id, and then tell them to confirm it.

Paste their discord username into this- dont type it, paste it. This will show if there are special characters. If there are, run.
Send payment info via Damaged.gg, so in the event of a scam (not an impersonation attempt) you have proof it is the user you are dealing with.
Method #2 - Classic exit scam:
When users are looking to exit scam, often they will try to get as much money as possible before exiting. It is good to check the deal dispute section for any mentions of them, check for dwc tag, and use mm. Here is an example from @bion who is banned for exit scamming.

As you can see, if your gut feels weird about someone, trust it. I had previously done deals with the user and the double dm ping + the urgent message makes it obvious theyre trying to scam. Later that day, 4+ scam reports.
Method #3 - fake middleman
A fake middleman is also a very complex scam, by trying to make you feel safe by adding you to a group with a fake one. Always verify MM details/payment info onsite to not get scammed with this one.
Method #4 - malware
Malware can come in many ways, shapes, and forms. When purchasing a program, run it on an rdp or an environment such as sandboxie. If you are running it on an rdp, make sure you arent logged into any accounts such as forums, or have a btc/other crypto wallet.
